Questions To Ask Yourself When Contemplating Divorce
Are you planning to get a divorce quite soon? Divorcing your spouse is an extremely critical decision in your life and its consequences can prolong for your entire life. Constraints in your relationship, frustration with the way things are going in your marriage, and marital problems do not and should not always end in a divorce. Here are some of those questions that you need to ask yourself prior to getting divorced. In fact, you should go through these questions as a couple. Eventually, if you and your spouse decide to go ahead with the divorce, at least your partner won’t be completely ignorant about your feelings.
Are you only threatening divorce or have you seriously made up your mind to go for a divorce?
You could be mad at your husband or wife and threaten a divorce out of the frustrations that have piled up in your marriage. Have you been using threats of divorcing him or her to get things done as per your wish or to exert power over your partner?
There are many people who feel that when they threaten divorce, they would succeed in getting the attention of their spouses. Moreover, their words will then be taken seriously. When you are looking for solutions, threatening divorce may not resolve your problems always. Rather, you should go together to a therapist for a couple’s therapy. So, in case it is a question of a divorce, immediately stop threatening. You need to take an informed and mature step in the proper direction.
Could it be so that your marriage was a disaster from the very beginning?
It may be possible that your marriage was nothing more than the two of you simply living under a roof in the first place so that your requirements could be met. Divorce could be a remedy to such kinds of marriages. After all, a marriage is the coming together of two individuals who should work in unison to make the best out of the relationship. When these two people are simply fighting for their own requirements, it could be the right time to part ways.
Are you still very fond of your spouse?
Do you feel your feelings for the estranged spouse has ebbed or felt helpless over certain problems in your marriage due to which the emotional closeness is no longer there? On the other hand, you may still have affection or love for your partner. In such a case, it makes sense to work towards cementing the relationship rather than planning to go for the divorce. Try not to get caught up in a divorce-like situation and realize later on that you committed a blunder.
